Two stranger on the bridge short love story
13 December Dev leaned against the railing, his usual evening ritual of staring into the water, letting the silence drown his thoughts. He was taking a deep breath ,his ear heard a payal sound , after that he saw.
A woman, dressed in a striking red bridal lehenga, sat on the edge of the bridge, her head resting on her knees. Her figure was small, almost lost in the vastness of the night, but the shimmer of her outfit caught his attention.
“Not the usual attire for a nighttime stroll,” Dev quipped, his voice laced with sarcasm.
The woman jolted upright,. “What do you want?” she said Annoyedly and look at dev annoyedly
Dev said with small smile ,
“To make sure you’re not about to jump or not ,” he replied, his tone casual. Because iI am telling you lake water is freezing ,
Merra rolled her eyes , Even if i am what your problem she said angrily to dev
Dev raised his hand upward , and said “ok ok ok , i am just kidding , by the way i am dev “What’s your story? Runaway bride?”
She huffed, brushing away tears that had smudged her makeup. “And what if I am?” by the way i am meera
Dev shrugged, moving closer but keeping a respectful distance. “Then you’re not the only one running from something tonight. ”
“Meera,” she muttered, avoiding his gaze.
They stood in silence for a moment, the lake’s soft murmurs filling the void. Finally, Meera spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “I ran because I couldn’t marry someone I didn’t love. He’s perfect on paper, but… I just couldn’t do it. Everyone thinks I’m selfish, ungrateful.”
Dev leaned against the railing beside her. And looking into Meera’s eyes “Not selfish. But Brave. It Takes guts to break free from what’s expected. Love isn’t about ticking off a checklist. It’s about finding someone who makes you feel alive.”
She glanced at dev for a moment, her brows knitting together. “And what about you? What brings you here?”
He sighed, a faint smile playing on his lips. He takes a long breath “Waiting for someone who’ll never come. My ex-fiancée nisha. She was supposed to meet me here years ago, but she didn’t. No calls, no messages. Just… gone. Still, I come here sometimes, as if hoping she’ll show up.”
“That’s heartbreaking,” Meera said softly. “How do you carry that pain?”
“I didn’t, not at first,” he admitted. “I let it consume me. But then I realized, holding on to the past doesn’t change it. It only stops you from moving forward.”
Meera nodded, her eyes glistening. “I feel like I’ve ruined everything. My family’s honor, their dreams… They’ll never forgive me.”
Dev looked at her, his gaze steady. “Maybe. Or maybe they’ll eventually see you did the right thing for yourself. Give them some time , they will eventually understand you. Love isn’t about sacrifice; it’s about finding someone who feels like home.”
She looked down at her hands, the bangles catching the moonlight. “I don’t even know what that feels like anymore.”
He smiled faintly. “Neither did I. But maybe we can figure it out together.”
Meera and dev share a warm smile each other.
Hours melted away as they walked, talked, and shared pieces of themselves they hadn’t shared with anyone else. Meera told him about her dreams of becoming a dancer, crushed under societal expectations. Dev shared his struggles of learning to trust again after being abandoned.
Their pain was different, yet it mirrored each other’s, creating a connection neither had expected.
As dawn broke, they found themselves back at the bridge, the soft hues of morning casting a golden glow. Meera leaned against the railing, her lehenga now streaked with dust from the night’s wanderings, but her heart felt lighter.
“What now?” she asked, looking at Dev.
He smiled. “Now, we take it one step at a time. Together.”
She hesitated, then smiled back, a genuine warmth radiating through her. “Together.”
They stood there, side by side, watching the sun rise over the city. For the first time in a long while, the future didn’t seem so daunting. Their love story had begun, woven from shared scars and whispered hopes.
The Message:
“Sometimes, life breaks us in ways we can’t predict. But in those broken pieces, we find room for someone else to fit. Love doesn’t heal us; it gives us the courage to heal ourselves, together. Every romantic story begins when two hearts take the chance to mend together.”
