Amrita sat at her desk, listening to the heavy monsoon rain outside. Occasionally, lightning would illuminate the clouds, and she would glance out with her beautiful eyes, taking a deep breath as she remembered she had forgotten her umbrella at home. Her colleagues had already left, leaving her waiting in the hope that the rain would subside, but it showed no signs of stopping.
In the dimly lit office, the occasional phone ring broke the silence. The earthy smell of wet soil filled the air. Amrita looked around, thinking about how empty the office felt without her colleagues. The plants near the window swayed gently, and the ticking of the clock seemed louder than usual.
Sameer, sitting a few desks away, watched Amrita quietly. He noticed her repeatedly looking at the window with unease. Gathering his courage, he approached her with a friendly smile.
“Hey, Amrita! Are you waiting for someone?” he asked, pulling out his colorful umbrella decorated with cheerful patterns.
Amrita’s eyes lit up when she saw Sameer’s umbrella. “Oh, Sameer, I forgot my umbrella at home. I was hoping the rain would stop, but it seems to be getting heavier.”
With a loving smile, Sameer said, “I don’t think the rain will stop anytime soon. Can I walk you to the metro station with my umbrella?” He opened the umbrella, revealing its vibrant patterns.
Amrita hesitated for a moment, then said, “Thank you, Sameer. That would be really nice.”
Under the shared umbrella, they stepped out into the rain. The city blurred with lights and reflections, and the shimmering water on the road created a beautiful scene. The pleasant smell of wet soil filled the air, and the distant sound of traffic added to the cozy atmosphere. As they walked, they noticed street vendors hastily closing their stalls and children playing in the puddles, their laughter echoing through the air.
“So, are you always this forgetful when it comes to umbrellas?” Sameer teased lightly, a playful glint in his eyes.
Amrita laughed. “More often than I’d like to admit! It’s one of my talents.”
“Good thing I was here to rescue you,” Sameer said in a mock heroic tone.
Smiling, Amrita replied, “My hero in a rainstorm. Thanks again, Sameer.”
“You’re welcome,” Sameer said with a reassuring smile. “I couldn’t leave you stranded in the rain.”
As they approached the metro station, the lights from cafes and shops illuminated the wet street. A street musician played a cheerful tune on his guitar, creating the perfect soundtrack for their walk. Amrita felt reluctant to leave the comfort of the shared umbrella. She looked at Sameer, her heart beating a little faster.
“Hey, Sameer, would you like to grab coffee sometime? I owe you a proper thank you,” she asked, surprised by her own boldness.
Sameer’s eyes sparkled with surprise and delight. “I’d love that. How about tomorrow, same time?”
Amrita nodded with a big smile on her face. “It’s a date.”
